City of Martinez and the Contra Costa Fire Protection District will hold ceremonies to mark the 25th anniversary of September 11 attacks in New York and Washington D.C., and heroic downing of a jetliner in rural Pennsylvania, all of which forever altered the way Americans go about their daily lives.
Martinez’s 9/11 observance will be held at the September 11 Monument that is located near the Amtrak Station at 603 Marina Vista Ave. The community’s program will begin at 9:00 a.m.
The observance will include a few remarks from representatives of the City Council and Chief of Police Andrew White, a moment of silence, and the playing of bagpipes.
“We hope you can join us for this solemn remembrance of the lives lost and heroes who came to help, on the 25th Anniversary of September 11,” said Mayor Brianne Zorn.
In Clayton, Con Fire will continue its tradition of marking this tragic day in American history by hosting a ceremony at Fire Station 11, 6500 Center St., starting at 10:00 a.m.
Along with honoring and remembering the events of September 11, 2001, and the men and women who lost their lives that day, the Clayton ceremony will also honor Contra Costa Fire personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
