Pleasant HIll, CA — The Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce revived a valued community tradition on Aug. 20, honoring Angela Kalinowski as its 2026 Businessperson of the Year during a formal dinner and awards ceremony at Back Forty Texas BBQ in Pleasant Hill.
The award returned after a six-year hiatus following the disruption of the Chamber’s annual events during the pandemic.
Kalinowski, owner of Back Forty Texas BBQ Roadhouse & Saloon and WiseGirl Restaurant, was recognized for both her business leadership and her longstanding commitment to the Pleasant Hill community.
“Angela’s impact on Pleasant Hill goes far beyond her restaurants,” Chamber President Jeremy Carlson said. “She continually supports local nonprofits, businesses, community events and fellow business owners. She is always willing to show up, lend a hand and give back to the community she calls home.”
Kalinowski was selected from a strong group of nominees that also included Gerardo Wence of Wence’s Restaurant and Karen Trish of Nurture Path Development Center.
The evening also marked the close of the Chamber’s 2025-26 fiscal year and served as an opportunity to recognize those who have helped guide the organization. Outgoing board members were honored for their service, while three new members were formally installed to begin their terms: Michele Sears-Rose, Savannah Alkhoury and Jeffrey Koch.
The ceremony brought together local business leaders and community members to celebrate service, leadership and the important role small businesses play in Pleasant Hill.
For Kalinowski, the honor reflected more than success in the restaurant industry. It recognized a reputation built on community involvement, generosity and a willingness to support others.
With the return of its Business Person of the Year award, the Chamber also restored a tradition dedicated to recognizing the people whose businesses and civic contributions help strengthen Pleasant Hill.
