This was a special year for Linda Karp and The Clayton Valley Garden Club’s 11th annual ‘Blossoms for Barbara’ Valentine’s event. Dedicated to the loving memory of Linda’s beloved father, Fred Manss II, who passed on November 1, 2021, the committee of volunteers gifted 1,382 flowering plants to people in our community under hospice care, assisted living, women’s shelters, hospitalized veterans, and elderly recipients of Meals on Wheels.
‘Blossoms for Barbara’ was created by Linda in 2011 to honor the memory of her mother, Barbara Manss.
“Dad has now joined my mother, Barbara, in heaven and they are smiling down on us. They both are surely missed,” Linda stated.
The beautiful cyclamen and kanalchoe plants were also delivered to local healthcare heroes in the covid units, urgent care, and vaccine departments at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, and Concord and to the Clayton Fire department.
“We are thrilled to have been able to spread so much love, joy, and gratitude all these years. In all these years we have joyfully given 12,132 gifts of love.”
“I wanted to give a loving and compassionate gesture to the families and patients in the care of hospice.” With the support of the Clayton Valley Garden Club, local businesses and individuals the ‘Blossoms for Barbara’ Valentine’s event has continued grow and touch the hearts of doctors, nurses, patients, family members, caregivers, counselors, volunteers, and the community. This event means so much to so many.
